I'm still concerned about our lack of focus and intensity for a full 4 quarters. We came out completely flat and uninspired against the Rams in a game that we absolutely had to win to have a chance of finishing above .500 and keep our playoff hopes alive.....that's a lot to play for, yet you couldn't tell by the way we started the game.
I'm encouraged that it was the players that spoke up at half time to get it corrected. They were able to find another gear and get the job done, but against a better team we might have watched our season go down the toilet.
The leaders need to find a way to motivate the team from the start and maintain that intensity for a full 4 quarters.

I'm also concerned about our pass protection this week. With Duane Brown possibly out of action with a knee injury we'll have to rely on Butler to protect Schaub's blind side with Salaam likely seeing action as the swing tackle.
Butler looked solid against the Rams but they're pass rush isn't exactly scary. The Dolphins have a very good rush and get a ton of pressure on opposing QB's. Not to mention they run a 3-4 scheme, and we all know our track record against the better 3-4 teams has been shaky at best.
Miami is tied with the Steelers for 2nd in the league in sacks (40 total) and Joey Porter and Jason Taylor are two of the best at getting to the QB.....this worries me.

This week it's our defense thats a concern, can we stop Tom and his offense for all four quarters?I realize that he may get pulled but I guarantee you he's not thinking about that.

The Cheatriots are one of the deepest teams in the NFL.
They went 11-5 last year with a backup QB.
NO LETTING UP!!!

If I'm not mistaken I think they're tied with the Bengals right now to determine the #3 and #4 spots, which means they might still be playing to win. Maybe Belichick doesn't care about that and he pulls his starters but it probably wouldn't happen until they've built a big lead on us, which hopefully doesn't happen.
I'm pretty sure our LB's can handle their run game but I'm worried about our secondary....Diva Rob get's burned too much, we've got two rookie CB's and another change at FS.
With Barber out Kubiak said he's going to play both Russell and Busing in the back end. Any screw up in assignment or communication can be fatal against the Patriots passing game. All Randy Moss needs is a step and he'll be in the endzone. That's why I think we'll be playing a lot of 2 and 3 deep zones to take away the deep ball, but that's going to leave Welker with a ton of 1-on1 coverage underneath and he usually eats that up.
Ideally you'd like your front 4 to create enough pressure on Brady to rattle him and get him out of rhythm, but Mario hasn't exactly been playing lights out lately and the Patriots have a pretty good O-line. I suspect we'll see Cushing coming on a lot of blitzes....Brady is even less mobile in the pocket than Manning, so if Cush can get there and bang him around like he's done other QB's (I always think of the way he beat up Russell) then we've got a chance. The more times Brady hits the ground the better.
Honestly, I have no idea what Bush has planned but he's going to have to come up with the scheme of his life to stop them.

well... to be fair about it.. we're talking like the patriots are going to be on the top of their game... and they may very well be... but...
anyone can have an off day. The officials could be on our side for once.
we could play the game of our lives too.
I have confidence in our team that we will show up for this one.
I like our chances... that's why they play the games.
GO TEXANS!!!! kick those f***ers in the ass and send them packing back home up to chowderland!!!!!!!!

** bumping thread for 2010 **
I'm a little concerned about a let down in week 2. Historically we've been known to follow up a big emotional win with a sloppy performance in the next game. Washington is a tough place to play on the road and both Shannys will be using everything they know about Kubiak and our system to plan for us. I would say our newly discovered run game will make the difference but big Shanny practically invented it, so he knows every way to shut it down.

If we make less mistakes(turnovers) than them, we should win this game regardless of how well we know each other. We just have more talent.

We probably execute the system better therefore we should win.As for our historic letdowns,if this is gonna be our best season,we need to leave all of those stigmas behind ie.the Colts, letdowns, bend not break

1. BIG concern about our young secondary. They've been torched for two straight weeks and we rank dead last in pass defense. Let's hope they improve light years in a very short time.
2. BIGGER concern about our pass blocking situation with Duane Brown out 4 games. Terrible.

They say Butler is our most technical offensive linemen.Uses his hands better than any of the other guys. From a Pass protection standpoint,I feel good with him since even if Brown was in we'd still double D.Ware.As for our secondary, communication is key.A lot of rookies and young guys have problems communicating with each other and knowing each other well enough about their physical limitations and tendencies. These guys just need a little more time together as a unit.If we lost these 2 games we would really need to worry since you would have to add mental fragility their list of problems. At the beginning of the season the thought of Antwaun Molden being our most experienced DB gave me nightmares.

I'm conerned that Cushing is gonna accidentally kill someone on Sunday. I predict Brandon Jacobs will not make it out of this game alive.

I still have MAJOR concerns about our secondary. Every single team we've played lights us up with little to no effort. They can keep saying that they just have to correct mistakes and get better, but will it happen??
It's easy to see that Jackson is in way over his head and half the time doesn't know what's going on. Over time I'm sure he'll get better but I'm starting to think.....no, I know....it was a mistake to roll with him as a starter this season with so much on the line.

theres no denying the fact that our secondary is the weakest link of the entire team. However, now it's starting to affect our whole defense. Were not confident in our ability to cover for shit so were blitzing less and less. This means less pressure, less turnovers and the turnovers are fundamental. We cant get to the playoffs playing zone and off-coverages...you can't get real pressure when playing these defenses neither.Lets make a deal for Champ,we need some Vet leadership from somebody that is actually good. The moment Glover Quin was the guy that was to school our 1st round pick it was over.Glover should still be learning his damn self for a couple of years before he wastes any of his time teaching someone else. With some many 3 wide sets means you 3rd corner should be pretty close to starter ability. Our first 3 corners have a combined 4 years of NFL service.Game over

Lets make a deal for Champ,we need some Vet leadership from somebody that is actually good. +1 To be clear, I don't think we made a mistake by letting D-Rob go because the price tag was way too high combined with the uncertainty of his health, plus his arrogant stance toward the whole thing. But I do think we should've had a back up plan that included a solid veteran back up just in case the youth experiment hit a snag.....like it has. In the short term I'd make a phone call to a CB that's available. I'll give you one guess who I'm talking about and here's a hint......his first name rhymes with Jacques and his last name rhymes with Reeves. Go ahead and laugh or roll your eyes but he wasn't that bad and he knows the system. .02

I'm REALLY concerned about our defense now that Meco is out for the season. That's a ton of leadership gone. I sincerely hope they get behind closed doors over the bye week and have a reckoning with Frank Bush.
The problems we're having can't simply be blamed on youth. That's a big part of it, but like Kubiak said the only new piece is Kareem Jackson and he's not the only problem. Hell if it was that simple then we'd just let Wilson roll to his side of the field more to help. Nope, it's the entire defense and a lot of it has to do with the scheme.
For starters, we're never going to be a team that can generate consistent pressure with just our front 4.....especially when you try to stunt as often as we do. We have to start blitzing a lot more, and I personally would like to see that be Cushing and Pollard. The problem with that is it means more man coverage in the secondary, and that scares the shit out of me.

Frank Bush needs to stop being a pussy and drop out of the zone coverage bullshit and start jailbreak blitzing. its not like it could go any worse than it currently is.

I heard Rod Woodson say something that stuck with me when talking about some elses offense. It's been half the season,if they haven't jelled yet they're not gonna. This might be true for our defense as well.
