I don't have a lot of concerns. Consistency now, mostly.

I still have my original concerns about the run game but I'm pleased to see the coaches have been using a better mix of outside runs and screens to compensate. As a result Slaton has been WAY more effective in the offense, although he's still coughing it up.
We still need to be able to run between the tackles better but teams will now have to plan for the outside game which should soften up the middle more, which we saw happening later in the game when Brown came in to run out the clock.

Well, I don't think we need much of a running game even though I'd like one. With the way we've dominated the pass.

I'd say about 70 yds a game. If we could get 70 yards a game that would be just enough.

We've pulled out about 80 past few games, haven't we?

Slaton and Brown had a little over 45 yds against ARz and 88 yards against Cincy. That needs to be a little more consistent. I said 70 b/c 63 yards a game gets you a little over 1000yds rushing. That way were not wearing out Slaton. We dont have to anyways with the WR corp we got.

My biggest concern right now is trying to figure out which Texans jersey I should wear this week.
Just kidding.
My biggest concern with the team falls on the injury to Mario. He seems to really be favoring that shoulder, and you could really see it in his push off the line against Cincy. Even with that, he was still quality against the run.
As for Duane Brown, he's progressing in his pass protection. It isn't always stellar, but his improvements just since last season are noticeable. If he continues to progress, he is our LT of the future.
As for Jacques Reeves, Gibbs worked with him in the off-season on making sure his head was on a swivel when playing coverage. It has made such an immediate impact in his shut-down coverage. He's always had the talent and the athleticism to keep up with the higher tier receivers, but never the technique.
Gibbs is a freakin' genius with the DBs right now, and if they continue to progress and improve...phew. I pity tha fool!

Good point about Mario, his injury is definitely a concern. They haven't said what the injury is in detail so we don't know how severe it is. If it's just a bruised shoulder then I'm not worried because that's just a pain issue, but if its a problem with the rotator cuff that's another story. I've torn mine twice and its a slow healing process...just when you think its better it can flare up on you with the slightest aggrivation and severely limit the mobility in your arm.

Also a good point about Reeves. His problem has never really been coverage skills but the inability to get his head around and locate the ball before the receiver. I remember so many times he would have excellent position but wouldn't see the ball as it was delivered and just try to stick his hands up at the last second. I haven't seen enough of him this season to say the problem has been entirely corrected but I've heard nothing but positive things about him so far.

I disagree about Brown, I think he has made leaps and bounds improvement over last year and is borderline excellent. He had gotten tons of praise from teammates and from Kubiak for his performance so far. I also remember Kubiak saying several times how improved Slaton has been in blitz pickup. I'd have to go back and watch the games again, but I dont remember the few sacks we have taken coming from blitzers. I think it was mostly just from staying in the pocket too long or the oline not holding the block quite long enough. Either way, the pass protection has been vastly improved over last year. Its almost like the oline can only do one or the other well at a time and have decided to just suck at run blocking this year.

Yeah I don't know where the concern about Brown comes from, he's more than holding his own so far. Sure he's going to get beat from time to time but every OT does. If Brown wasn't doing his job then Schaub wouldn't be leading the league in passing, period.

How could I have forgotten my biggest concern going into this week?!? I'm very worried about our track record against 3-4 defenses. The 49ers run it and we've been historically BAD against 3-4 teams. I'd be lying if I didn't say that lowers my confidence going into this week's game. I still think we've got a good shot of winning this one, but given the extra week to game plan against us it could just as easily get ugly.

ya Im worried to see how Myers does. Luckily the NT for SF doesnt look to be too imposing. Hes 317 lbs and has 13 tackles and 1 sack. At least hes not some 360 lb monster like Jenkins.

Agreed. Myers is just too damn small, and now the word is that we've gotten away from our zone blocking scheme somewhat to try and get more of a down hill push in the run game, which we still aren't seeing big gains from on a consistent basis.
It wouldn't surprise me if we target more O-line upgrades in the offseason.

Yeah were going to have too. Myers is small and Pitts is old.

they might not even give Pitts a new contract sadly. I like Pitts but we could probably do better.

sadly, that's just a part of the game.
It could be worse. You could have a future HoF'er at the end of his career who just won't give up the ghost.
When it comes down to it, it's a business and the team has to remain competetive, so cold as it may seem, we may have seen Chet's last game as a Texan.
I wish him luck no matter what happens, and he'll always be a Texan to me.

Yeah I feel the same way about Pitts. He's an original Texan and will always have a place in our history but his best years are behind him and I don't see Studdard giving him the spot back. If he stays its going to be as a back up for average pay.

If he stays its going to be as a back up for average pay. He might be happy with that and you never know, he may surprise us.

I hope he does surprise us because he's more than decent at run blocking when he's healthy.
