It was not a good week for Texans football. Our loss to Indy really hurt us and now Jax is back in the hunt with thier win over the Giants. One silver lining is that Cincy did beat Baltimore so that helps some.
Hopefully we will get some help during our bye week.
Jax plays the Jets. That matchup will help us and hurt us at the same time. The loser will be a game behind us while the winner will be ahead of us with a tie breaker. I'm guessing Jax is the team we want to win because we have a chance to beat hem in a few weeks.
Cincy plays the Steelers. Probably the best scenario is for Cincy to win with the Steelers coming of a loss to the Broncos tonight. We shouldn't count on that though.
SD plays the Eagles. I'm hoping McScabb puts the hurt on the Bolts so we will not lose any more ground on them.
Baltimore plays Cleveland. Any chance the Browns can pull an upset? Now would be a good time.
NE vs Indy. This doesn't really affect the wild card so much but I would love to see NE tear Indy a new one. I hate the Colts.
We come back from the bye with a Monday nighter vs the Tacks. They have been winning some games and remember we one a close one with them earlier in the season. The Texans need to learn how to play 4 quarters of football, not turnover the ball, and not go on another penalty spree. We can still salvage the season but its going to be tough.

I still like our chances.
We really have no choice but to let it play out and let the cards fall where they may. I just hope all the other teams beat each other up and while I don't wish injury on anyone, it wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit if Peyton has to retire Joe Theisman style.
I'd rather be where we are right now, than where we have been in years past. We're talking about playoffs in mid November, a year ahead of where I thought they would be, and I'm loving it.
Go Texans.

the Chargers pulling off a last minute win really sucked for us.

we're still on track for a winning season. IMO that's our main goal for this year, anything beyond that is a bonus. That's not to say I don't want them to make the playoffs, it's just that I don't expect them to this year.
I expect a major run at the SB next year and for a few years following.

I have a friend(Cowboy fan) who got Brady and Schaub in his FF. He's been starting Schaub the last few weeks and friggin loves him. He said he is def. one of the best. He told me he thinks we can contend for the SB right now. I was shocked. I disagreed but he said he has us and the Saints in the bowl.

Indy has a tougher schedule from this week on out.
IF the Texans can take their last 7 games, or at least all 3 division games and 3 out of the 4 remaining non-division games, they stand a slim chance to actually overtake the Colts IF the Colts lose all 3 of their remaining division games. They would only have to lose one more game (2 if we lose a game in that 7 game span).
So, there's a slim, very slim, chance that we could still actually take the AFC South title. Which, in and of itself, would be interesting. Consider the Colts offense has sputtered the last two games, and their defense has had major hits in a few important positions.
The Texans defense is on the rise, and our remaining schedule is "easier" than the Colts. It's gonna come down to division games, I have a feeling. If we win the rest of those, that sets up a VERY interesting head-to-head, I think.

@ S.Ringrose
I like your optimism but the scenario involves Indy losing 4+ games and us winning the rest of ours. I could see us winning all of ours but no way Indy loses 4.
The most realistic approach to the playoffs is us only losing 1 or 2 more and getting some help from other teams. I still feel like we have a solid chance. Winning 5+ out of our last 7 is doable.

Here's where I think that Indy might lose 4, or even more.
They have a pretty tough remaining schedule, and this week's game against the Pats is the first in their real tests. They barely beat the 49ers and us, and they are on a downward momentum swing.
Week 10: Pats @ Colts -- This one could very EASILY be a Pats blowout of the Colts. We should all hope for this outcome, obviously.
Week 11: Colts @ Ravens -- The Ravens defense is still potent, and can still force turnovers. We saw what a potent defense can do to limit Manning. This game could easily be a win for the Ravens, especially if the Pats tear apart the Colts.
Week 12: Colts @ Texans -- After already being roughed up by the Texans defense, the Colts have gone on to face the Pats physical defense and the Ravens. The Texans will be primed to kick the tails of the Colts from the first whistle to the last. The Colts will show up, but they won't win.
Week 13: Titans @ Colts -- The Colts offense by now has been hammered for four straight weeks by three of the league's toughest defenses. Unfortunately, the Titans defense can be just as physical, at times, and there's a good chance that this could be a huge upset win for the Titans. Colts are still licking their wounds.
Week 14: Broncos @ Colts -- I'll go with the benefit of the doubt and give the Colts this win, however Denver could just as easily show up like they did the first 6 weeks of the season. The previous weeks will determine how the Colts handle this game.
Week 15: Colts @ Jags -- Let's face it, the Jags want this game, and with the way MJD is running right now, can you deny him the possibility of stamping a hole into the head of the Colts D-line? The Colts offense will be pretty worn down and banged up. Key injuries will determine this one. Jags win by a close one.
Week 16: Jets @ Colts -- Colts win. The Jets aren't who they used to be, and Sanchez throws a pick or two. Colts feeling pleased and are playing for the AFC South title the next week because whichever team loses (Texans or Colts, decides the playoff positioning, and maybe even who goes into the Wildcard)
Week 17: Colts @ Bills -- Colts SHOULD win, but with the Bills you never know. Terrell could have a decent game. Lynch could bust some holes and some serious yardage. Closer game than people will pick. Colts win by 4 points on a last minute touchdown.
You're going to tell me it's not realistic the Colts could lose 2 non-division games with that schedule? Pats, Ravens, Broncos. Just those three alone spell serious trouble for the Colts.
The big key for the AFC South will be IF the Colts can win any of their remaining division games, and if the Texans and Jags can continue to win their much-needed division games.
In all seriousness, I think the Texans very well COULD walk away with the AFC South title even still. The Texans schedule is easier, but they MUST win-out, or at least, win-out their division games.

I'd pretty much bet my left nut the Colts dont lose 4 or more games. They arent the kind of team that goes on losing streaks.

Look at their schedule. If NOTHING else, those next 3 games are easily games they could lose.
Come on. Patriots followed by the Ravens followed by the Texans.
Stay positive. There is a VERY good chance Indy won't be undefeated after this week. Their offense has been exposed the last two weeks, and with the Pats coming to town they are due for their first loss. The Ravens are going to FEAST on the Browns this week, and then have the Colts. Then the Colts come to play us.
No matter WHAT you think, you can't deny those are EASILY three losable games for the Colts, and if by some chance that does happen...well, that sets up the Texans a lot nicer than they are now.
Stranger things HAVE happened. It is football after all.

this is not the rex ryan defense. Patriots its possible they lose I agree, I think they walk all over the Ravens. I am positive, positive we have a good shot at a wildcard. The Colts are just too far ahead in the division.

Totally agree with headsplint, although it dosen't look likely, as long as it's still possible, we have to believe that the Texans can pull this off.
I for one will be tuning in on Sunday Night, and hoping the Pats do us a massive favour.

Obviously we're a long shot to win the division but you never know. Realistically I think we can be right in the middle of the wild card race if we take care of our end. We can't afford to come out flat after the bye and lose to the Titans.....that simply cannot happen or it will torpedo everything.

They won't be flat after the bye. The Colts did us a small favor in ensuring that would be the case.
Cushing and Pollard will ensure the defense comes out fired up, amped up, and ready to hit'em in da mouf.
On offense it'll be up to Schaub to do what he's paid to do, keep the offense up and make sure they're ready to bust'em in da mouf. Andre Johnson getting vocal might go a ways too.

I agree about Cush and Pollard, and throw Meco and Mario in there too. Mario's shoulder should be fresher and I imagine he'll be playing with some extra fire, and Meco is getting a ton of good pub for being Cush's mentor so he's playing with a lot of confidence also.
Like you said, it's up to Schaub and the offense to get things back on track....no more stupid turnovers.

its looking increasingly clear that the Steelers will probably finish 2nd in their division and easily claim the first wildcard. I think the Pats will win theres, and it will be a shootout for the AFC west between the Chargers and Broncos after Denver lost their 3rd in a row today. I think the Jags did us a favor in beating the Jets today. Its going to make that game against the Jags in week 13 more important than we realized at the beginning of the season. We basically need to hold off the Chargers/Broncos, Ravens, and Jags for the other wildcard. I honestly think the Jets and Fins might screw themselves out of it.

We just need to win out. If we do that, we put ourselves in the best position we can. We fans cannot ask anymore than that.
Just make sure you make sacrifices of cold ones to the football gods for the next 8 weeks (including this one). We need their support! Lol.

I'd love nothing more than to win out, but you gotta look at it realistically as well and look ahead at what we will be up against in that case.
