I thought it would be cool for everyone to share some of their favorite and not so favorite NFL moments.
The first game I ever remember watching was Super Bowl 5. I was 6 years old. I've been a fan ever since.
I remember when we almost got NO highlights, surprising in this day and age. Everyone had to wait until MNF halftime to see them and hear Howard Cosell describe the games in a style only he could do. Classic.
I grew up watching NFL films... that made football so kickass. For me, they turned the game into something special, much more than football.
Football in the 70s was really cool. Intense games and bad ass teams. The last chapter of the old school era in the NFL. I'm so glad I got to see that.

I remember being on a road trip with my parents when the Oilers were playng the Bills in the playoffs. As the radio station I was listening to the game on faded out of range it was halftime. I think you know the rest.

One of my favorite memories was actually last year while we're on the Oilers/Titans. You know 13-3 in the regular season. All the media coverage and the fans being arrogant thinking they were on their way to greatness. Then game 1 in the playoffs and BAM! Season over. Couldn't happen to a better owner. Still a great big FAIL hangs on his head.

My animosity for Bud goes back to the Luv Ya Blue days.. I still can't believe he fired Bum. He traded Pastorini for a washed up version of Ken Stabler who turned out to be a Kenny Rogers wannabee or something. But after they had lost to Pittsburgh in the AFCCG for the second time.. and all the fans packed the dome... for a loser... but dammit they were OUR loser...(One of the greatest and inspirational moments in all sports IMO) We had all the faith in the world in Bum... he was gonna lead us to the promised land... they even had us all singing that stupid ass song that they stole from the Dolphins. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvWn_yGaA-Y&feature=PlayList&p=5CEE64F8DDDB9F7D&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=7 And Bud Adams, in his infinite wisdom pulled the rug out from under him ending our super bowl dreams for about 8 years. Years later.. after all the heartbreak that followed... when he was moving.. I thought about my own history as a fan of the team.. and how I stood with them all that time and through so much... and that night our losers came home.. We gave them our all.. and he turned his back on us. I put a hex on them... I vowed they won't win a super bowl until after the new Houston franchise does. People laugh me off when I tell them that.. but hey.. it's worked so far.

I haven't been to a game in cool weather in Reliant yet, it was always either hot, warm or just right.
I bet that was great with the crisp autumn air. That really means football to me. I bet that was like seeing Vegas or something for the first time, with the atmosphere being what it was, MNF, battle red etc. The team sure played up to it.
The first pro football game I ever went to was in the Dome.. but it wasn't the Oilers... it was the Gamblers... and let me tell you... they rocked. Other than the Texans, they have to rank as my favorite all time Houston football team. I think they could have just joined the NFL and dominated. They scored 650 points in one season. Jim Kelly will always be a Gambler to me, the best run and shoot QB that ever lived.
Pastorini... wow... he was like Archie Manning, in the way that if he would have played on any other team he would have been a Hall of Famer. Much like Carr, he got plastered his first few years in the league.. he got sacked like 15 times in one game. By the time he had a good team around him, his skill began to diminish. He'll still be a legend to me though.
I liked the Cowboys (Oilers were still number one) up until JJ bought the team. When he fired Tom Landry that was it. It was much like when the Oilers moved away. I hated them from then on. I did win a lot of money betting on them in their super bowls though, I'm not stupid, lol.
Well.. except for that one against the Steelers in 95. I didn't think Barry Switzer had it in him. Can't be right all the time I guess.

Man the weather was perfect the whole day. Cold, clear sky, and electricity in the air. There were helicopters overhead all day and camera crews walking around in every lot. I remember looking up from my seat and the blimp was hovering right over the hole in the roof. Shit I'm gettin chills right now just thinking about it! I know it may be lame to a lot of people but it really was one of the best days of my life.

wow... this brings back memories.. this is the way MNF football used to start. I really miss those days. New and improved usually means bad things to me, and this is one reason why. just in this 10 minute clip you will see the remnants of a bygone era. A prayer before the game, a time when being a black QB really meant something, a legendary broadcast lineup, tons of future hall of famers.... totally funked out intro music early 70s style... the days before players danced after every play. They even had the obligatory goof, when Frank Gifford mistakenly introduced Lynn Anderson as Loretta Lynn. reminds me of being a kid again. I wish I had a time machine. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOkgcFj6MJQ&feature=related

Yeah that makes me want to hurl. "We was robbed!"--Bum.
Whats funny was NFLN did a top 10 most contraversial calls and this was one, but hell there were a bunch on that list that were the Steelers. Just too much to seem coincidental IMO. Especially that SB against theSeahawks. That was terrible.

actually, this was the year before the renfro play. The 78 game wasn't even close .. 34-5.
I was hoping to find a vid of the 79 AFCCG,... if anyone knows where we could find old NFL games online please post it.

Technically, the Renfro TD would have tied the game, which we lost by 2 TDs.
It wouldn't have been the winning TD, but it would have changed the complexion of the game. The momentum/vibes/moods. The defense might have been fired up enough to make another stop instead of giving up a TD on the next drive.
I agree that that particular play would rank as an all time downer for H town football, however I have to say that my personal biggest let down of all (out of many) has to be the debacle in Buffalo. As bad as it was, it gets worse every year when I have to either see highlights (lowlights) or hear mentions of the "biggest comeback in NFL history". It makes me want to either put a bullet in their head, or mine.
I knew when it happened it would be that way. Forever. And it has been.
The bad thing is... if anyone ever betters that record (it'll probably be the Texans on the bad end if my luck holds true) it'll still get mentions as the "2nd biggest blah blah blah".

I remember lots of beautiful passes by Warren Moon. The guy threw the best deep ball I've ever seen and had INCREDIBLE field vision.
Best QB that ever wore an Oilers jersey IMO.
