People really in Houston think this is something we shouldn't do? Really? Peavy is an ACE and Pence is a DIME A DOZEN OUTFIELDER. He's no Braun.

I was thinking of the exact same scenario.Trade pence in a package for Peavy and still sign a CC or the other dude

Well the other thing is we have Erstad and Bourne both on the roster. Push comes to shove move Erstad over to right.

I'm a bit of an obsessed Padres fan, and a Texans fan as well, so maybe I can help you guys out. The Padres aren't going to deal Peavy to Houston when Pence is the centerpiece of the deal. Be thinking of deals like for Beckett, Sabathia, and Haren except slightly bigger due to the low price and the long term contract.
First, Peavy is a star. He's coming at a huge bargain for that type of pitcher.
10:$15M, 11:$16M, 12:$17M, 13: $22M club option ($4M buyout)
For that many years of control and for 3 years of bargain prices, the Astros would certainly have to pull some bigger talent than Hunter Pence. The guy's a career .336 OBP and had an OPS+ of 105. That means he is barely above average for a center fielder. No thanks.
Second, the Padres have stated that they want pitching back in return for Peavy. The Astros farm system does not have the pitching that the Braves and Cardinals do. Sorry boys, but despite Peavy having Houston as his preferred destination, the only place he will be going if he is traded at all is St. Louis or Atlanta.
